SEVERAL CLUB FORMS FROM FIJI ARE SAID TO HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY PLANTS AND FLOWERS. ITS NOT UNEXPECTED AS THE MATERIAL FOR MAKING THE CLUBS COMES FROM THE PLANT KINGDOM.
THIS RARE FORM FROM THE TORRES STRAIGHTS ISLANDS 68CM. LONG IS A GOOD EXAMPLE. AND A BOQUET OF FIJI ULA CLUBS.
HERE ARE SOME POSSIBLE FLOWERS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AN INSPIRATION ALSO A BOUQUET OF POSSIBLE CLUB FORMS. FEEL FREE TO ADD ANY EXAMPLES YOU MAY HAVE AND YOUR VIEWS. :)

Hi Vandoo,

Although it is commonly called a "gunstock club," the form of these Fijian clubs is actually based on the clawed or 'sali' flower of a wild plant in the banana family. I understand that each type of Fijian club was designed to inflict a certain or different type of wound. I believe the shape of these clubs was meant to cut through and snap bone. They are indeed dangerous yet beautiful looking weapons. Attached are some wild flowers from the banana family that I understand grow in the Pacific Islands and the type of clubs in question. Regards.
