A challenge for painting enthusiasts

This is an oil painting on wood that i have just acquired, due to the most interesting and reality looking swept hilt sword hanging from the Gentleman's waist.
I assume this is some 19th copy or even an original revival portrait of a previous period .... 17th century.
There is a faded stamp on the back where the only word clearly visible is Barcelona. The painter signature could also be Spanish, like Marti ?.
Anyone here would recognize this image, as been a 'classic' from an early painter, or could this is be an original perspective of this artist?
I know the pictures are lousy; that's what i could get at night.
Of course this is all about the sword, although any comments in general will be appreciated.
