Two new clubs, a long time I have waited and wanted. The long one just short of 45 inches. The "gata" is a nice heavy one 1.650 kg so I tend to think it is a fighter rather than a dancer. Again as with so much Melanesian clubs there is a Phallic suggestion. Made for a big chap a little too heavy for me. The long one is just light enough to make a feint, which no way could be done with the gata. As you can see it only just fits my hand.

Very cool, I have never seen the paddle-like one

I have a feeling that modern reproductions made for tourists are made of a different wood, less dense (maybe younger trees), and/or just not as thick because they all seem to be fast swingers... Samoan clubs made in th modern-day for tourists seem to be VERY heavy, almost over-built...

From " Fijian Artefacts, Rod Ewins" The lugs for the cord on my example is broken, why you do not see it in my post. Just love that little patch of decoration.
