Trousse - Is it "authentic"?
2 Attachment(s)
Hello all! I am pretty new to Chinese antiques, and well, I am not sure if this is an antique or not... it's a trousse or eating set with chopsticks and a knife. The knife doesn't seem too sharp, though I don't know if it's a quality blade or not. I don't know what authentic sea turtle shell feels like - so I can't comment on that...
Any thoughts? I appreciate any and all help from you gurus ;) |
It is ok
Hi Vinny,
It is AOK. Good age to the inner timbers, turtle shell veneer. The knife is missing the end cap, likely ivory as the other parts. "Toothpick" it missing too, though check deep in side, sometimes they have the ends broken off and are pushed deep inside. It would likely have an ear scoop and nail cleaner in there too and would have had a small bronze ring and a belt loop attached to the ring...I have a few around here, I'll try to get a few images posted. Thanks for the reassurance! I look forward to your pictures... :)
