Indonesian(?) dagger for discussion
The auction is over (Andrew, Mark, I have learned my lesson!!)
This one is from Indonesia (I think  ) Very pretty scabbard and a beautiful blade. What is it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 |
Hi Ariel it was me who won this lovely knife sorry if i outbid you :) got to be indonesian surely..interested in comments.

Captain, no objections on my end! I did not bid on it ( saving money for something Middle-Eastern...) but ...
She sure is purty! Enjoy! Would also be interested in comments. |
Not Sure
Yes the scabbard looks quite Indonesian but the blade is in a Turkish Star pattern ; the bolster is sort of Sumatranesque (Acehnese) , but what the heck is a chunk of turquoise doing in the butt of the handle ?
Obviously it is a later addition (the turquoise) along with the filler it is set in . I'm thinking that the butt may have had a silver cap at one point . Intriguing piece Smashy . |
I was having a look at this piece also. The blade is quite nice. I agree that the turquoise seems like a later addition and quite out of place for this item. The blade is lovely. I have seen this type of twist core in some Malaysian/Indonesian blades.

And in some Moro pieces. :D

Im inclined to agreewith Rick, that the turquoise looks very out of place and is probably a later addition
My guess as to origin is definately Sumatra/Aceh,the knife reminds me of a dagger sized sikim. |
