Wandala Shield for sale

While my own collection runs more to the "arms" than the "armour," here's one of the latter that must find a new home. :)
This ox-hide shield is most likely Wandala, and I am presenting it as such, though the bell-shape and embossed linear pattern is shared by a couple other neighboring tribes as well. It heralds from northern Cameroon. Measures 72.6 cm in height and 58.6 cm in width across the bottom. For a very similar example, see Plate 6 of Prestel's Shields: Africa, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. An older example of an uncommon form of African shield. Price at $350 plus shipping. |
