Michael Tromner collection.
Friends, it deeply saddens me to say this, but more of Michael's collection is up for auction at Herman Historica.
I saw about seven of his beloved matchlock muskets, and did not look further. I do not know the details of why they are being sold off, but to me it is a tragedy. Very best regards, Richard. |
It is so sad, and I know I am not alone in missing Michael. He was a truly brilliant researcher, collector, photographer and above all, friend.
He deeply loved his collection, and I think we all shared the dream that it would be kept intact. It surpassed the holdings of so many museums as did his knowledge. My hope is that his name will remain with these items as they are sold, and that those who acquire them will keep his name in their description in tribute to one of the great arms historians of out time. Does anybody know if his collection was ever catalogued in entirety? It deserves to be published if so. |
Jim,
Nice to talk to you!! I do not know if all Michael's arms and accoutrements were ever properly catalogued. I did think of going through the Herman Historica Auctions, finding and saving the information and photos of each piece. This would be rather laborious, but do not know an alternative really. Unfortunately, field -work is taking my time at present, but thankfully we can visit past auctions at Herman Historica, and view both photos and details, so in a way the sold items Are catalogued. (It's just finding them!) A search through past auctions, using "Tromner" may be a good start.... Very best Jim, Richard. |

This is how regrettably such irreplaceable legacy will disperse :(. |
There is, of course, his profile here.
http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/member.php?u=14805 Someone dedicated to his work here might compile a list of threads with photos and annotations. This would certainly be a way to go beyond just a footnote as a member but his content is here. For instance http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10481 Cheers GC |
Clasic Threads
In the front page of this forum is the sticky CLASSIC THREADS where a siginificant number of Michael's topics are listed; those which are linked to others of his authorship, as he used to do in further supporting his entries.
