SPEAR for ID / Indonesia ? but where
7 Attachment(s)
I bought this spear sad enough without any details except probably Indonesia.
Total length is 180 cms. The wooden shaft is well patinated and has decorations on the top 20 cms and the bottom 20 cms. Also there is a number, so it has been part of some kind of collection. Any ideas to which island / tribe we can attribute this one ? Thanks, Willem |
Looks Igorot to me.

Not Igorot, but perhaps Nias.

But the shaft is really thin (1,5 cms) which I have not seen with Nias spears And than there is the decoration in the wood on the top and the bottom. |

Here are some Nias spears.

Willem,
It looks like Tanimbar, or the neighbouring region, to me. Check the Leiden picture archive for resembling spears. Michael |
Hi Willem,
I also would guess Moluccas, but can be also from the north. But this is just a feeling. BTW very nice and interesting spear. Regards, Detlef |
yep Tanimbar

The collection number looks the most of collectionnumbers from the museum in Rotterdam ( starting with 26-) maybe it ex from their collection. Arjan |
Thanks all for your help !!!
The picture from RMV is indeed very similar. Best regards, Willem |
