nasty ol’ knife

A garage sale acquisition. Very heavy blade. Any ideas?

Could be a reshaping of a larger broken blade. A picture of the spine would be helpful.
|
Billhook handle? perhaps some version.

Looks old American.
|
A little less than a quarter of an inch thick at the spine. The tang is peened over what looks like a washer. I suspect old American too.

some pictures of the spine, and the end of the tang in the handle.

Your knife reminds me of a corn knife I have, which is an old sword blade ground down to a usable length and mounted in a turned wooden handle. The clip blade is very American in style. I suspect this knife had an agricultural use. Definitely worth saving!
