Georgian Sword Dance

I just returned from a family get together and had a chance to meet and talk with my much younger cousin who has been living off and on in Tbilisi over the past year and will be returning there in a couple of weeks. He mentioned that some of his friends are involved with the revival knife and sword making there. He mentioned their traditional sword dance and I thought this video may be of interest to some. He told me he is now involved with making wine and has his own vineyard there :D and if I ever visit him there we will have much wine to drink ;) I was told Men are expected to drink three liters of wine at these special banquets

Absolutely magnificent Lew!!!Thank you so much for posting this amazing, and inspiring dance.
I always think of the swords of the Khevsurs, which have been mentioned only occasionally here, as well as the great example of the Khevsur buckler which Yannis has posted on earlier threads. I first heard of the Khevsurs when reading Halliburton's 1930's adventure narrative, "Seven League Boots" in which he visited the remote regions of these anachronistic warriors high in the Caucusus. There are few words to describe the spirit of the Georgian people, beautifully shown here in this performance!

All the best,
Jim

Very good!

I was lucky enough to see one show like this 3 years ago. In that show the amazing thing was the sparkles, like fireworks, after swords clashing each other.
