Z mark on heavy old sword

Hello dear members,

Here is a sword I wanted to show you,
The guard and global shape make me think of an eastern sword, a polish or cossack sword.

But I saw sewed leather scabbards and pommel like this one on german 18th swords.

The large Z stamp can fix it I hope !
Glad to receive your comments

Kind regards

Hi

that´s an Austrian Füsiliersäbel (food soldier sable) M1765. Nice piece.

This "Z"-mark is possibly a wolf angle what was the mark of the Solingen firm Neuhaus.

Hello,
Thank's a lot for your useful reply !! :)

Really interesting, I read this Z "wolfAngel" mark could work as an old germanic rune protection symbol.

Is it the hilt without the hand guard that makes this sword a soldier model ?? ( and not grenadier...)

Personally, I prefer it that way :) , make me a little think of a shamshir or karabela shape.

I'll post other pictures when I get it !

Kind regards

For AHorsa,
The heraldic blason with the Z wolfsangel crampon .
Blason of a small town-village in Rhineland...

Good find, BBKing. But I am pretty sure the blade doen´t come from Idar-Oberstein.

Of course I meant "foot-soldier" not "food-soldier" :D
