Afghan choora on steroids

8 Attachment(s)
Here is a long choora with a highly laminated blade in its original leather-bound wooden scabbard. The blade measures 15 1/8 inches long, and the overall length in the scabbard is 21 1/4 inches. I don't recall seeing a longer example.

Thoughts and comments are most welcome.

Regional Variant?

Ian,

I have a very similar choora (not quite as nice as yours). The blade on mine only measures a paltry 13.5” (34.29 cm). The spine of my blade has a simple incised design 3” (7.62 cm) long at the base of the blade. The hilts on both choora are very similar. The ferrule on mine is notched and there is a notched brass strip in front of the ferrule. The ferrule on one side is shorter than on the other. From what I can see, your ferrule has the same inequality. I don’t have a sheath. Perhaps these very long and slender choora are a regional variant?

Sincerely,
RobT

Hi Rob,

Yes, they are very similar. Seem to be from the same area and perhaps the same makers. I would say they are both 19th C examples.
