Good find Jeff . :)

Wow, thanks Jeff. I have been wanting to check this book out for some time, not so much because i think the info will be particularly accurate as much as the fact that Gardner was also the father of modern Wicca. The book is hard to find and usually expensive when you do find it. I will be interested in checking out his perspective. :)

Great find, but I have one unfortunate observation: the PDF doesn't contain the complete text. :(
The hunt for Gardner continues....

I have been very interested in this book myself, and have been looking for a copy for some time. There is some good news for those interested in the book though. I emailed Orchid Books a month or two ago regarding this book as I thought they had a reprint available. Well, not yet....
Their email response:

Quote:

Thank you for your enquiry and interest in our publications.

In fact this title has long listed as an Orchid Press publication, as
a reprint edition, but due to technical difficulties relating to the
poor quality of illustrations in the original edition, it has long
been on hold. Our edition has yet to go to press.

We have not given up on republication of this book and it has again
returned to active status on our plans, as technology changes have
occurred since our earlier announcement that will enable us to
produce a version that would satisfy buyers. Currently it is likely
to be available toward the end of this year, or possibly early next.
We will keep you in mind and let you know as soon as we have the book
available.

Unfortunately, original copies of the book are now virtually
impossible to obtain.

So keep your eyes on Orchid Press and hopefully before too long there will be a reprint available.

Orchid Press

Cheers and happy hunting

The Keris and Other Malay Weapons

Dear All,

I bought "The Keris and Other Malay Weapon" in Kuala Lumpur 1998. Thus, this book is a 16th reprint by the Malaysian Branch of the Royal Asiatic Sociaty (1998).

These are the first two pages of that book, which contains articles on keris and other weapon by: AH Hill, GC Woolley, HC Keith, GM Laidlaw, GB Gardner, E Banks, and Abu Bakar bin Pawanchee... This is the first page of the contents.

Regards,
Ganjawulung

Hi Ganjawulung,
The title is misleading as there are two reference works on the keris with similar titles:
Keris and other Malay weapons by G.B. Gardner
and
The Keris and other Malay weapons by A.H. Hill

Yes the MBRAS edition (A.H. Hill) is fairly available and an interesting work (I think we have the same edition). Gardner's work is a bit more elusive. Compare the PDF to the MBRAS book and you will see the difference.

Happy Reading

David 26th May 2007 05:24 AM

Yes Ganja, TC is correct. While the book you are referring to does have an article by Gardner included it is not the same as the 1936 book which is completely by Gardner. This book was last reprinted in 1973. I remain hopeful that it will be reprinted again by Orchid Press. :)

Thanks David, and tc,
I hope some day I'll get it, at least the copy of it... Happy weekend...
