Interesting antique kukri
 

Just picked this up on eBay. Looks like either late 19th century or early 20th?

Interesting piece. I agree on the age. Looks like a good quality piece. The proportions are different from any khukuri that I've seen before. Looks more straight than most. Awesome old khuk! Congrats.

Nice kukri Lew! Unusual & interesting, its been on ebay for a few months & I was very surprised no one bought it, before.

I would guess it was rehandled at some time in its life, but very well done. Presumably in Nepal {This is quite common with kuks of course there of course.}

I love the file work at the bolster blade join & the Female Goddess genitali kaudi. {Possibly Kali!} To. A great piece all round. Congrats!

In fact I was discussing this very one behind the scenes very recently.
I personally think the form seems to be something of a 'transitional' shape. The first step away from from the Kuk toward those large recurved knives that in their final form are bowies.


When it arrives, let us know where the POB is.

Lousy packing job
 

Arrived today and the tip pierced the box in three places and the hilt was chipped. Found the chips in the packing material :mad:

Bummer. They probably will glue back on and show very little.

You know what? Sometimes photos can lead us to making assumptions that we shouldn't, sometimes one persons perceptions of what qualifies as a certain condition grade can differ from the next....
We all know these things and make allowances.

But when a seller can't even be bothered to use suitable or adequate packaging, especially on a fragile or dangerous item!
Thats absolutely not freaking on!

If that had been posted internationally and had pierced the box, the buyer would probobly have lost it.

If I were you, I'd be absolutely furious Lew.

Amazing ! Almost everything he sells is antique. Especially than he should know that packing is important. Damage to antiques is very bad for their marketvalue. Amazing that he has still 100% positive feedback.

I had this once with an old spearhead that came in with a damaged (bend) point.
Fortunately a friend was able to restore that one, because it is such a downer on a purchase. :(

Hope the chips will glue on nicely.

I remember receiving a bugis keris from an early ebay Seller maybe 10 years ago .
It was sent in a Priority Mail 11X14 inch unpadded cardboard envelope ! :mad: :mad:

It's going back for a refund.

Sellers mistake, I'd expect return postage refunded as well.

Refunded in full plus I got half of the money I laid out to send it back. So I'm only out $5 :shrug:

Damn Lew thats bad, had an angry postman lecture me on idiots who post parcels like that, I just agreed & pointed out I was the buyer of the 18 inch blade danging out of the box not the sender.

Interestingly though your item is already relisted & live on ebay for a $70 higher price still using the original pictures.

Buyer beware.
