Victorian Campaign Medals

Hi,
Has anybody got any experience in researching Victorian Campaign Medals. I always get redirected to ancestor type websites which I'm not too keen to join. Anybody know of a simple direct way to do the research. I have a name, rank, number and regiment.
Many Thanks,
Norman.

P.S. If this topic is not apropos you can always drop me a p.m.

Hi Norman,
I do not have any experience with this sort of research but just as a suggestion try the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, assuming that the medals are British? . They may not be the correct place but could well point you in the right direction.

Hi Stu,
Thanks for your input. The medal is an 1880 Kabul to Kandahar Star to the 72nd Highlanders. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission was set up in 1917 so I think this is outwith their remit. The biggest problem is that a lot of records at the National Archives were destroyed and to my knowledge approx 70% were lost in a fire so sometimes there is just a brick wall. Thanks again for your interest.
My Regards,
Norman.

Still worth a try I would think. What about the Imperial War Museum? Also see here https://www.nam.ac.uk/explore/72nd-r...wn-highlanders
