Long bladed yatagans

Hello everybody,
I would like to share with you the pictures of these two long yatagan blades,
92cm long/ 36,2 inches

sadly just the blade but I found the decorations/inlays interesting

I hesitate about the origin,
I read that long yatagans came often from Zeybek area / Minor Asia,
the decorations inlays have a ''tribal style'' like berber do on flyssas in north africa so I don't know...

These yataghans do indeed come with Zeybek hilts often. Have you tried etching the blades, as usually there are rows of Turkish Ribbon on this type?

Hello,

not yet, I just tried to take off the maximum of rust,

I hesitate with etching ,
don't you think it will take off the rest of silver/gold/brass inlays ?

Maybe just ''smooth'' etching ?

Kind regards

You were correct and Teodor’s comment was spot on.
This Yataghans are unusually long, their blades are crude-ish, relatively narrow, T-spined, curved ( not recurved), and they have integral bolsters: all the features of a Zeibek origin. I do not seem to remember a Zeibek yataghan with a Damascus blade of any kind, including the “Turkish ribbon”. But Teodor must have had something in mind and I learned not to ignore his thoughts;-)

I had one of these years ago when I first started collecting. I really regret selling it back then, but the reality is it had to go as I needed the money. The grip was buffalo horn with very large ears held with iron rivets.

Hello,

Thank you all for your comments !!!

It would be really nice to make new hilts with large ears on these blades,
I'd love to make it with horn but my cratsfmanship has is limit grrr :) and it's not easy to find large pieces of horn

sure, it's a true profession ! ...

I found what it seems arabic numbers to me on what it remains from the cartouche, I thought it is the date but it is a non sense date ( or for science-fiction !?! ) I recognise a 9 and maybe two 8 , + zero ?

What do you think ?

Kind regards

This is inscribed with the classic

لا فتا (فتی) الا علی لا سیف الا ذو الفقار

“There is no hero but Ali, no sword but Dhu’l-Fiqar (Zülfikar)”
