Hello ! I just bought this dagger and I havenīt received yet, but I have pictures from seller. The hilt seems ivory and he told me he bought several years ago in Paris and the antiquarian tell him was a french dagger.
Somebody could help me to identify the dagger? do you know some book with information of this type of daggers?
thanks in advanve

There is a dagger of nearly identicle form that has been on ebay for some time. The ivory? hilts are identicle as are the blades and the scabbards. The quillion blocks are almost almost identicle with some minor decorative details being a bit different. The seller guess's late 17th or 18th century. The form feels a bit more 18th century to me. Given the virtually identicle form of the two daggers I wonder if there might be a military attributation, naval dirk or something.

Just deleted my previous post because I changed my mind ( :p ). I was leaning more toward a late 19th c. dress dirk with celluloid grip, but then I saw this little gem-(sorry, Moderators, I'm at work and can't post the pics direct from this computer)

This is a very reputable site and I trust their judgement, but perhaps yours is a little later, maybe mid-19th c. Note the blade dimensions, shape, and short triangular scabbard with single ring like yours. Even the hilt is similar and probably ivory. These types of shorter naval dirks favored by American naval midshipmen, but possibly as another branch of military side dagger. Very nice find-
