A 17TH Century Lobster-tailed pot helmet

Lobster-tailed pot helmet, also known as the zischagge or szyszak or capeline.
I still don’t know its exact origin but I would say from Styria . May be a member could confirm me .. Any comment on it will be welcome. |
Cerjak, the bowl on this one is a bit deeper than some examples I've seen having it be a touch more akin to its Turk roots than more western European examples so I would say the Styria attribution as a general region is possible although the rest of its features put it more in the western European region. Any chance for some pics of the inside and what it weights?

The weight is about 1750 gr i will add an extra picture of the inside. Best Cerjak |
I didn't notice the flared edge around the front edges of the cheek plates to accommodate peripheral vision. This is a tad more of an eastern feature although seen on western examples as well. It appears you have the hanging ring at the peak of the helmet for hanging from the saddle when not being worn. These are nearly always missing. Does it look to be original to you Jean?

Yes Allan, for me the hanging ring is original . Please see the pictures.
What is your opinion ? best Jean-Luc |
Jean, without any arsenal or control marks to work with assigning a regional attributation is of course a guess at best but with the flared front edge of the cheek plates and the bit deeper bowl of the helmet an central/eastern European is a reasonable guess to make on design features alone. A very nice looking helmet and having the hanging ring at the peak is definitely a bonus.
