Rolled grooves in smallswords
2 Attachment(s)
Apart from all colichemardes having a rolled groove in their lower face, a lot of regular blade smallswords also featured this groove rather than a reducing radius hollow.
Here are three more examples, and I am sure there are hundreds more to be found. This was a quicker, cheaper way of producing a smallsword blade by using a Huguenot built machine that was finally chased out of Solingen into Shotley Bridge by the guilds. The youth's sword has a foreshortened blade and a very small hilt; plus the edges of the blade have been sharpened; very curious latten. The next two are from my friend and yours: thank-you Mel. |
