1156 - West African Lobi Tribe Figural Slingshot

This is a carved wooden slingshot originating from the Lobi Tribe in Burkina Faso in West Africa. Characteristically employing a human form, these slingshots are used for hunting small game. This nicely carved example stands 5¾ inches (14.7 cm) tall and weighs about 1 1/3 ounces (39 grams). A few chips running with the grain are present in the area to which the now absent sling would have been attached and a faint green discoloration is present in this area on the back of the figure.
