1074 - Philippine Working Bolo Knife with Sheath

This bolo knife features a robust 15 inch (38 cm) long single edged blade with a bright steel finish with only a few small blemishes. A short brass guard and ferrule make the transition to a carved caribou (water buffalo) horn hilt at the end of which is a tang washer and peened tang. There is very slight insect damage to the horn. A leather scabbard is reinforced at the mouth with an additional layer and there is simple embossed decoration on the display face. The scabbard ends with a keystone shaped flap of leather arising from the display face. The stitched back face ends short of the tip of the blade (which has suffered some corrosion where thus exposed) and this does appear to be a deliberate design. The leather shows some scuffing of the black finish and slight shrinkage along the sewn seam. Overall sheathed length (including the flap) is about 22 inches (56 cm) with a weight of just under 24 ounces (679 grams).
