The light weight at just over 5½ ounces (159 grams) and relatively simple features suggest this to be a throwing spear (or javelin) most probably intended for hunting. The blade cross-section of a shallow concave facet opposite a flat facet across the midrib and also through the blade cross section brings to mind the knives of the Shona or a related group. The blade is 9½ inches (24 cm) long, most likely with a tang and with the shaft reinforced with what appears to be sinew where the blade inserts. Adjacent to this are crudely inscribed zig-zag lines in an area with a red stain; beyond this the shaft tapers to a plain end. Overall length is 53¼ inches (135 cm).
