Made to strike an impressive visual effect, this modern Yemeni dagger retains many features of the traditional form, but upon close examination it is clearly costume jewelry. The curved, double edged dagger blade has a plated finish and is 8¾ inches (22 cm) in length. The edges are dull and I suspect the blade was made by the notorious modern technique of fusing two pieces of sheet metal embossed with a mid rib together. No CITES concerns with the stained wood hilt with white metal inserts in a synthetic matrix. The end of the hilt by the blade is covered with thin embossed white metal. Faux brass sovereigns complete the display face. The back face remains quite simple. The sheath has an engraved, perforated white metal covering on the display face. Both the scabbard and belt are covered with fabric on the back. The brocade fabric covered belt face has white metal fittings decorated en suite with the sheath. The underlying leather belt will accommodate a waist up to 37 inches. Overall weight is 39½ ounces (1119 grams). Not a fine old antique, but for what it is, nice enough.
