1001 - Sword Dao

This sword dao is of a form associated with the region of the Kachin in northern Burma and the Naga of neighboring Assam and is of a relatively simple, utilitarian form. Overall length is 25 1/4 inches with the blade being 19 3/16 inches in length and a width of about 2 1/2 inches at the squared-off end. The handle is of wood with some chip losses at either end and wrapped with rattan-like material woven on one side. A short perforated brass cylinder forms a finial. On the same side on which the grip wrapping is woven, there is a low ridge line nearer the cutting edge side, while the opposite blade face is flat. The cutting edge is fairly straight, while the distally tapering back is concave. Narrow chip defects are present in the last 3 inches towards the squared end. No scabbard or sheath accompanies this sword dao.
