The slender and relatively thin 0.1 inch (0.27 cm) thick slightly asymmetrical double edged blade appears to be of European origin, possibly having originated as the far end of a sword blade, based upon a short length of fuller on each face near the hilt attachment and an unsharpened 0.15 inch (0.39 cm) thick back on the side of the fuller. Rivets may be seen securing the blade to a well-sculpted iron hilt showing residual traces of gold koftgari. A pair of grips have two small, mobile links between them. Overall length without the more recent red velvet covered sheath is 16¾ inches (42.5 cm) with a blade length of 9¾ inches (25 cm) and a weight of 20 ounces (561 grams).
