Lew cataloged this javelin or spear as Dinka, circa 1920s. The socketed spearhead has a narrow, leaf shaped blade measuring 15 inches (38.2 cm) exclusive of the neck and socket. A low central midrib separates slightly concave blade faces with forging imperfections evident. A cylindrical widening of the neck immediately adjacent to the blade has incised geometrical decoration; from this the socket gradually widens. The butt of the slender wooden staff is wrapped with a spirally wound brass strip tipped off with a recycled brass flashlight bulb threaded base. Overall length is about 69½ inches (176.4 cm) with a weight of 14¼ ounces (414 grams).
