226 - African Zulu Long War Club with Iron Studs in Head, Late 19th Century

This Zulu war club features an array of iron studs set in a small bulbous head arising from a haft that measures 36½ inches inclusive of the head. The shaft is slightly faceted, suggesting, perhaps, that it was formed with an adze. Very narrow and non-distracting lengthwise cracks run briefly along the haft. Lew dated this example to the last decade of the 19th century. Overall weight is 14.9 ounces.
