This is an Australian Aboriginal throwing club or stick of a form suggestive of eastern Australia. Weighing one pound (454 grams) this eccentrically fusiform example tapers from a diameter of about ¾ inches (2 cm) in the area of the handle where there are lightly inscribed semi-spiral lines to a maximum of just over 1 1/3 inches (3.5 cm) at the opposite end where there are three deeper lines of varying width. For the most part, the wood is dark brown with some variation at either end and scattered non-distracting scratches and dents are present. Overall length is 31 inches (78.6 cm). Lew dated this example as circa 1890.
