191 - Philippine Bolo Knife with Leather Sheath, mid 20th Century

Lew dated this robust chopping knife to the 1950s. The sharpened edge is along the concave side and most of the bevel has been ground on the side with the stamped 'SH' mark. The opposite face tapers more subtilely to the edge, At origin the approximately 13½ inch blade is 0.2 inches thick with a fairly constantly decreasing thickness along the convex side around to the tip. The irregularly octagonal in cross section light colored wooden hilt has a brass ferrule. A leather sheath with a strap accompanies the bolo. Overall sheathed length is 20½ inches with a weight of just under 26 ounces.
