181 - Sumatran Aceh Sikin Panjang

From northern Sumatra (Indonesia) and dated by Lew to 1880 to 1890. A light brown translucent horn hilt of the typical shape shows incised decoration and inserts into a blade with an integral nine petaled floral theme. The straight blade is just over 21 1/2 inches in length (for the cutting edge portion). A narrow fuller extends from the base of the blade along the back on each face for about two-thirds of the blades length. The blade surface shows mottled old rust with light pitting except towards the tip where deeper patches prevail. The blade faces offer few clues that this is a laminated blade, but this becomes evident on the back near the hilt (as shown in a photograph below). Overall length is 27 3/4 inches. There is no accompanying scabbard.
