129 - Indonesian Golok Machete (Large Knife) with a Horn Hilt

This large knife or machete, termed Golok has a horn hilt and a wooden scabbard with horn trim. The single edged blade is just over 13 inches in length and is very slightly concave on the back and somewhat more convex along the edge. The blade appears to have been lightly etched and this has revealed a layered construction. A wooden scabbard has dark brown horn trim at its mouth and is bound by horn strips at intervals. A horn belt hook is present on one side. There have been a few losses to the horn bindings. Lew dated this as circa 1900 - 1920. Overall length is just over 21 inches with a weight of 17.6 ounces.
