87 - Wooden Club, probably African, mid-20th century

This club is largely of knobkerry form, though not exactly. The head does appear to be carved from the same piece of wood as the handle. Rather than being spherical, the head is gently peaked at the top and slightly flattened on opposite faces, measuring 2 3/4 inches in length and 2 1/4 by 2 3/4 inches. A few lengthwise cracks are present in the head. Dot in circle decorations have been applied on the head and in a band on the haft. Overall length is 20 1/2 inches. Lew dated this example to the mid-20th century.
