A nice heavy Zulu knobkerrie club weighing 22 ounces (640 grams) with a somewhat apple shaped head that is 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in diameter slightly elongated from spherical in the long axis to 3 2/3 inches (9.3 cm) showing both sap wood and heart wood. Overall length is 26¾ inches (68.5 cm). The shaft tapers slightly from the head until becoming angulated an polygonal at the end. A subtle crack or cut along the grain is present (Second and third view below) on the handle and a few narrow lengthwise cracks are present in the head. Lew dated this example as circa 1900.
