51 - Indonesian Knife with Layered Blade and a Horn Hilt c. 1890s

The gently curving 7 7/8 inch (20 cm) long single edge blade features a layered construction lying largely parallel to the plane of the blade with the gently convex blade faces revealing a contour-like pattern on the well patinated surfaces. The flat spine reaches a maximum thickness of 0.12 inch (0.3 cm) and shows the layering 'on edge.' The hilt is formed of slightly variegated dark brown horn, mostly smooth but with restrained incised decoration. The dark wooden scabbard features a wranka style expansion at its mouth and a bone tip. The length of the knife is 11½ inches (29 cm) and overall sheathed length is 14 inches (35.5 cm) with a knife weight of 2.8 ounces (81 grams) and overall sheathed weight of 4¾ ounces (137 grams).
