The Toubu (Tebu, Toubou) are a Saharan cultural group within the current political boundaries of Chad, Niger and Libya. This dagger incorporates the characteristic braided brown and black leather covering with a typical blunt spiked pommel / counterweight in proportion to the size of this blade. The 5¾ inch (14.7 cm) straight double edged blade has a broad shallow central fuller on each face with a narrow inscribed center line. The blade edges are reasonably parallel though slightly concave for the hilt-ward two thirds of the blade beyond which the width tapers to a point. The blade shows evidence of repeated honing and scattered dark spots. Overall length is just under 10½ inches (26.4 cm) with a weight of 3 and a third ounces (95 grams). A dark brown leather sheath features snakeskin trim and a braided brown loop. Overall sheathed length is 11¼ inches (28.8 cm) with a weight of 4 and one third ounces (123 grams).
