Question Syrian dagger - it must because that is what is on the blade

Hi bought a dagger sight unseen. I feel initially that it may be for tourist trade but it feels heavy and may possibly have been used. It has Syria stamped on the blade not sure who did that. Any ideas, please be gentle.

Hi

It could be used.
But this kind of dagger was purely for tourists: the first ones, late 19th early 20th.
I saw some daggers like yours with the inscription: "Souvenir de Syrie".
For French tourists & residents during the Mandate...

Best,
Kubur

don't forget the middle eastern designation 'lebanon- syria - etc. and the borders are recent labels put there by westerners, particularly the UK, who drew borders arbitrarily and patronizingly with a ruler and did not consider tribal or cultural differences.

The scabbard is even more similar aside from there being one ring instead of two. It must have been made off the same pattern.
