Hi Carlos,

a very good buy! And a very nice and somewhat unusual dagger. You can be happy that I missed the end of the auction caused by some personal stress. And you get it by a very good price too. Would be very nice when you post new pictures when you have received it and have given it some care.

Best regards,
Detlef

Nice clean up! Didn't know that the mounts were silver.

Could the guard and ferrule be aluminum? If so, this would probably be a WWII era piece.

Ian.

Ian I would say no. The former patina is correct for silver. Aluminum doesn't so much patina as it oxidizes into a white powder. So I would say that this is more likely early 20c and not WWII.

I agree that the fittings are indeed made from either silver or a silver alloy. As Jose has pointed out, the way it was oxidized and the color it was when it was sold definitely points to the fittings being made of silver. I was watching this piece as well, but due to circumstances beyond my control my bid was canceled sometime before the auction closed. If I were asked I would date this piece to the late 1800's. My congratulations to you on a wonderful score and new addition to your collection. If and when you ever get tired of looking at it (and quite a few of your other items) you know where to send them.

Best,
Robert
