The Wallace Collection - London
Has anybody here visited the Wallace Collection in London? The armoury is extremely impressive! Well worth a visit if you are ever in London.

Thor, the Wallace collection is a MUST, the W&A as well. I once had the posasibility to visit the W&A reserves and it was fantastic.
We had four hours - so plenty of time - afterwards I wonder where the time went - suddenly the time was running verry short - and out. But I had a teriffic time there. |

I was in London 2 years ago. Played hooky at the conference and hit the museums. .
Wallace is incredible, I never set foot outside the Oriental oxhibition and was ready to stay there forever. Apparently they have a problem with the Eropean collection: a lot of it was discovered to be modern fakes. Went to V&A: big disappointment. They have limited the number of exhibited weapons; instead, here were rooms after rooms of Islamic religious objects. |

PLEASE SEE http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ace+collection WHICH IS ON OUR OWN RESOURCE tHE fORUM lIBRARY ...cHECK OUT THE EXHIBITS RIGHT HERE!... FOR THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT SEE http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ICTORIA+aLBERT For The British Museum see http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...BRITISH+MUSEUM I find it very interesting...and fascinating that exhibits include examples on almost all of the important discussions over the past months on Forum. A quick dive into these three resources(and there are many more) will give steerage on most of the content basics in very nearly all the threads lined up across a broad spectrum... Thank you in advance to anyone more interested in the other exhibits but I only meant to illustrate the concept ... It occured to me that such collections could be possibly placed at Post 1...so that Forum authors could automatically refer to these resources in the form of a simple to use "Bibliography in reverse"... in developing this theory it would seem possible to actually provide an automatic bibliography at the beginning of each thread.. ...and as an example here is one which Cathey provided at Post 1 on Scottish Basket Hilts ...at http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ottish+Baskets But let me be clear that I advocate and suggest provision of a bibliography based upon library resources so that it can be automatically generated by Forum Admin...using a basic program(algorithm) to generate ...into the initial thread at each #1. The Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum removed its weapons collections some years ago and does not intend to display them again. This included the Egerton collection of Indian arms and armor. Apparently these are held in storage somewhere outside London. I don't know if they can be accessed still. Has anyone had recent experience viewing the V&A weapons collections?

CORRECTION:THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN VIEW THE V AND A COLLECTION IS HERE ON OUR LIBRARY.
Meanwhile~ I advocate and suggest provision of a bibliography based upon library resources so that it can be automatically generated by Forum Admin...using a basic program (algorithm) to generate ...into the initial thread at each #1. Regards, Ibrahiim al Balooshi |
