Turkhana club ?
just won this against fierce competition, should be on it's way to me in short order from texas...(i was the only bidder ). was billed as an "African Turkana War Club Weapon". looks fairly generic & could be from otherwhere?
no dimensions given, i hope the rulers in th photo are english units not metric far end of club not shown, visible portion looks like about 28 whatevers scaled from the ruler photos. not the best photos. but looks like a rib feature on the 4th one of them. thanks for any comments. |

I've seen a similar club with the origin identified as Ingessana, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one was Turkana. The Pitt Rivers Museum has a very good website of images of things from Southern Sudan, which should have some pictures of similar clubs

club arrived, decent patina, a few small cracks near the pommel end. just over a metre long, 310 grams. transitions from round haft to a squashed hexagonal x-section befor flattening out to the flared end.flat edges on the flaired areas. bit long for throwing. nice head basher.
