POSSIBLE TOTALLY NEW CATEGORY NEEDED??
The NEW ACQUISITION thread started by SPUNJER, and the response to it suggests that maybe a totally new category could be introduced for this subject, seperate from the Swap and Ethnographic listings. What do members, and probably more particularly the Moderators think?

Hello Stuart,
I have to admit that I'm not overly fond of that thread. I'm an oldfashioned "one piece one thread" guy: This helps to keep the discussion focused and it's also much easier to locate specific info later on. Nothing wrong with adding pics for comparision to a given thread but if any of those pieces warrants a discussion of its own then this should be done in a separate thread IMVHO. Much of the valuable info in this forum got solicited by "What is this?" or "Hey, look at my new toy!" type postings. While it may be possible to offer two subfora (one for such show and tell threads and another for more "academic" or comparative threads), I don't see any benefits from such a move, especially since there is no clear cut-off between any such categories. I'm looking forward to hearing more comments! Regards, Kai |

Dear Stuart,
I have to go with Kai on this one (also IMVHO ) It is nice to see new acquisitions but maybe it would be an idea to do this the same way as a thread on the keris forum which is based on 'pictures only' so no discussions just pictures. |

I'm with Kai ... completely. One at a time, with the maximum possible discussion over it.
What would fit better into your sugestion, Stuart, would be a sort of so called gallery, or the like, which is another issue ... "discussionless" pictures, only for the sake of apreciation. Fernando |

1 Piece 1 Thread
I am with Kai on this.
I favor creating 1 thread for 1 piece as the discussion stays focussed there. Besides many of us are interested in specific weapons, I for myself am extremely interested in Indo-Persian weapons and would not want to be distracted by other pieces in a common thread. Nidhi |

I ALSO AGREE ON THE SEPARATE THREADS, FOR ALL THE REASONS MENTIONED.
THE IDEA OF A GALLERY IS NICE BUT WOULD ONLY BE GOOD FOR LOOKING AT AND DROOLING THE CLASSIC THREADS POST WOULD BE OF MORE BENIFIT AS A CATEGORY ESPECIALLY IF EXPANDED AND UPDATED OCCASIONALY WITH ANY NEW INFORMATION ON THE SPECIFIC TYPES OF WEAPONS. THIS WOULD ESTABLISH A GOOD QUICK REFRENCE ON SPECIFIC WEAPONS AND WOULD ALSO CONTAIN LOTS OF PICTURES OF THE VARIATIONS OF THE TYPE. THESE COULD BE GATHERED FROM OLD AND NEW POSTS AND WOULD SAVE SEARCHING THRU ALL THE ARCHIVES MANY POSTS. |
