Samoan Fa'alautalinga club
Here we are again playing dice with pictures. 18" long 6" wide. The "some kind of rope for grip" could put you off. Do I detect a nice patina to the wood and wear to the carved decoration? through blurry pictures? We will have to wait.

"Rope" is likely to be woven coconut fibre.

A Samoan Fa'alautalinga club... Not to be confused with the Flatulating Samoan Club, I might add.

I am keeping my fingers crossed. For the time being here are two links to the same examples in a Samoan museum. The first link you have to scroll down to the clubs.

Hi Tim,
saw this on eBay....decided not to bid as the binding looks too clean ...perhaps suggesting a souvenier . Look forward to the pics when you receive it. Kind Regards David |

To my great surprise it is an actual weapon. Also does seem to have some age. The coconut fiber cordage does appear clean looking to the naked eye. I am not worried about that. It is very nicely carved. You just have to take my word as to how good it is in the hand. Hard wood, hard edge fracture your sKull no problem. Obviously I will be removing the eye screw stuck in the handle by some numbskull. Hard to say what age but look how well it blends.

It is not Samoan it is Fijian. These are being made for tourists. The one I have does display some age but who knows how old. Lucky it was silly cheap.
