Smile GAUDIEST KNIFE COMPETITION, MY ENTRY

THIS FINE SPECIMIN IS MY GAUDIEST AND I CHALLENGE ONE AND ALL TO TOP IT.

PLEASE EXCUSE THE QUALITY OF MY PICTURES AS I HAD TO GO BACK TO MY OLD CAMERA WHICH IS NOT VERY GOOD BECAUSE I COULD NEVER FIGURE OUT HOW TO RESIZE PHOTOS FROM MY GOOD CAMERA.
THIS FINE DAGGER IS MUCH MORE MAGNIFICENT IN PERSON AND SURLEY BELONGED TO THE GREAT POOBAH HIMSELF.

Actually, I think this is someone's attempt (poorly done) at a copy of
the Topkapi (sp?) dagger. Still definitely the gaudiest I've seen.

I RAN ACROSS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THIS SORT OF DAGGER ON EBAY. IT WAS IDENTIFIED AS AN ETHIOPEAN DRESS DAGGER. I DIDN'T BUY IT SO THERE MAY BE HOPE OUT THERE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BE KING OF BLING

These all look like they've come straight out of Elton John's cutlery drawer.

Shimmerxxx, you have a good eye. I think we need to clarify some terminology here. The term "gaudiest" has several meanings:

--Brilliantly or excessively showy.
--Cheaply showy in a tasteless way.
--Ostentatiously ornamented.

The Wallace Collection dagger you show above is one of the most beautiful and outstanding examples of Mughal art. As such, and considering the content of this thread, I'd refrain from using the term "gaudiest".
"Brilliantly made" is more like it:-)

TRUE THE REAL WORKS OF ART THOUGH OFTEN FLASHY AND COLORFUL TO SOME TASTES ARE IN ANOTHER CATEGORY ENTIRELY. PERHAPS ROYAL WEAPONS OR WEAPONS OF STATE? IF RUBIES, DIAMONDS, GOLD AND OTHER PRECIOUS STONES WERE WORTHLESS PERHAPS THEN THEY WOULD BE GAUDIE BUT EVEN THEN THE WORKMANSHIP WOULD SET THEM IN A MUCH HIGHER CATEGORY.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET PERMISSION TO START A POST ON SOME OF THE VERY JEWEL ENCRUSTED TREASURES SUCH AS THE TOPKAPI DAGGER AMONG OTHERS BUT SO FAR HAVE HAD NO REPLY TO MY INQUIRYS.
HOPEFULLY I WILL RECEIVE PERMISSION SOON AS I HAVE THE PICTURES ON HAND.

WORTH IS ALSO A MATTER OF TIMEING IF SUCH A DAGGER AS MINE WERE OFFERED AT THE RIGHT TIME AND PLACE PERHAPS ONE COULD HAVE OWNED MANHATTEN.
