Default Zaghnal from the czech republic?

Sold as a 'Marine Boarding Peak'

From Vendor:
===================================
Country of manufacture: United Kingdom
Manufacturer/ Maker: Kladno
Model: Marina
Weapon Type: Boarding Peak
Sub-type: Combat
Condition: Good
Overall Length: 33 cm
Barrel/ blade length: 15 cm

19th century boarding pick, curious and scarce piece, was used as a weapon and as an aid to board a ship, marking on the blade.
===================================

Kladno is a city in the Czech Republic, so UK seems a bit far fetched.

I'm guessing the blade was used by some bright marine blacksmith to make this zaghnal-esque weapon as a personal weapon for someone. UK RN? Maybe?

Odd piece, haft looks like it was being carved for a pistol or carbine stock & was repurposed.

reminds me of a technical ice axe

i think hitting someone with it would not be too practical as if it stuck in the victim you might loose the weapon

the angle of the grip would save your knuckles when hammering into ice as well

I I have done some technical climbing in the past and i could see this being quiet effective

The lack of hammer or adze on the back however is counter to my idea.

Interesting

Regards

Maybe some form of hook? Woodsman's, Butcher's - that sort of thing?

Wayne, remember that, by titling this instrument as Zaghnal, when someone searches the forum archives for the real thing, this intriguing device of yours pops up as being one of its (Zaghnal) kind.
By the looks of it, its typology classification is being 'demoted' from a boarding pick, through a climbing axe and way down to a butchers hook. All in all, not an antique Euro weapon. Do we see it sliding by the Ethno section ... and ending in Miscellania ?
Any way this will revert ?

Merry Christmas.
