Dagger from West Java, Sunda, for sharing & discussion
Hello dear members,
here a dagger (badik?) from Sunda (West Java) made in Tjipatjing 1907 for sharing and discussion, handle from bone or deer horn, scabbard fittings from alpacca taken possible from a dutch packaging/box. I think this is a seldom seen sort of dagger, would be nice to know if there are similar examples out there! 310 mm long inside scabbard, 286 mm without, blade 5 mm thick near the handle, 116 gram. |

The handle looks like some Siraui handles, and the blade a little bit too but without the bend.

Thank you for comment Severin.
I am more as curious if there are similar examples in the collection of other forum members. Regards, Detlef |

Detlef,
It would seem that nobody else has one of these to show. The thin bolster seems unusual. Also, the place name and date remind me of the Tjikeroeh swords and knives of the late 19th C. and early 20th C. that seem to have been produced for the Dutch colonial and domestic markets. Ian |

thank you for comment. Yes, this knife coming from Sunda. I think that I've seen a few similar pieces before but can't remember where and when. Would has been nice to see a few others for comparison. Sadly it seems that you are correct by this point as well. Regards, Detlef |
