Turkish/ greek dagger or North african genoui ?
Hello dear members,
I found today at flea market this nice item for few buckets, it was just for decoration, the blade is not a good one but the scabbard and the hilt are really nice and ( for me ) and are well made, maybe not too recent. The scabbard seems to be silvered brass the hilt, maybe silver parts on horn or really hard wood. First I thought it was a genoui style Moroccan dagger especially for the hilt shape but I saw months ago in an auction house a turkish dagger with the same tip end on the scabbard, it was said to be turkish or ottoman greek origin ( sadly no picture) Kubur ?? |

Hi my friend,
You are right it's Moroccan and a sbula. A sbula with botox and extra guard and quillons. Not very old I'm afraid, but well done. Please show us the photos of the auction that you mentionned, I'm sure that it is a Tunisian dagger and notTurkish nor Greek. For more examples look here http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=20240 But yours is Moroccan. Last edited by Kubur; 28th March 2021 at 09:21 AM. |

The first that you posted is a Moroccan sbula, very different. But in the past you posted a koummiya with a Toledo blade... |
