The images just needed to be resized to upload Carlos.
Never seen anything quite like it, but the wood carvings look SEA. That cross piece/guard doesn't look particularly Filipino, but it also doesn't look original to the piece since it appears to narrow where it meets the blade. Many of the elements seem a bit European, so perhaps a Spanish blade made in the Philippines? |

Yes, i agree, the vegetal carvings in the wood are very SEA, but the all the metal fittings smack of European influence.

Well this piece I feel is Filipino. This type of wavy blade indicates an Ilocano origin to me. It therefore would not surprise me at all that there would be Spanish influence in it. Not only common but expected.
Also the scabbard being horn and carved in this fashion indicate Luzon Island, where the Ilocanos live. Obviously someone wealthy owned this due to the quality of workmanship and the silver work involved. I hope whoever got this will post here. |

Well the one beside it does not have the SEA flairs that show in this smaller dagger, that is the wonderful vegetal carvings on the sheath and hilt. I wouldn't have placed the larger blade in the region of the Philippines viewing it on its own. Placed together though these two daggers seem to almost undeniably be of the same origin. That begs the question, is the larger dagger from the Philippines and simply lacking any motifs from the area or is the smaller dagger actually European with some exotic SEA flair added for interest. I frankly don't know the answer and for me the origins of both these blades is still up in the air.
