Indian buckler for coments
Please Gentlemen, give your coments on this item.
Billed as Indian, end 18th century. Elephant hide. Its width is about 45 cms ( near 18" ). One centimeter thick, with a narrow upturned rim. Original cushion and iron rings. Six boxes ... a bit unusual; four bosses are more often seen, right ? The decoration is mostly gone. The seller says some of it is ( was ) wording, but i fail to discern that. Thanks in advance. Thanks for the grading, Lew, but it's not yet mine . I am trying to get the courage to buy it, but the seller wants an implausible price .

Please Gentlemen,
It seems as i can not cease thinking about this piece, and i consider making an offer to the seller ( a local one ) if i find nothing serious against its more apparently apealling particularities. Would end 18th century be possible? And would this imply in a parade item, or did they use these on the field at that time ? Are the six bosses, instead of four, not a current procedure, or typical of a certain area ? Would the missing grips be leather ? And last but not least, do these dhals usually appear on the market in a better condition and in large quantities, or is this a piece advised to collect? Thanks for further help. Fernando |
