Paris
Visted Paris on a short trip and managed to find time to visit Musée de l’Armée at Les Invalides. The area is very decent (no sign of any rioters) and the museum has some interesting displays. I glimpsed vast amounts in storage which suggests that visitors only get to see the tip of the iceberg.
There were some Norman chainmail, Frankish swords, Boabdil’s sword (falchion?), mamluk cavalry armour, Ottoman armour with ”turban helmets”, etc... Last edited by Victrix; 28th November 2018 at 11:49 PM. |

The museum is huge with collections spanning objects from medieval period to WWII. As I was short of time I only saw the medieval exhibition which was well worth the time. Lots of armour as well for those so inclined. You could easily spend a whole day at the museum viewing the different exhibitions. Must surely be one of the best in Europe. There may be more objects in the Medieval Museum in Paris as well (?) but did not have time to visit.

I was thinking these threads could become references of where to go when in a particular city. So this thread would come up when using the Search function for ”Paris.”
If someone knows of other places to view antique arms & armour in Paris, then they can reply to the thread to add additional recommended locations. More specialized local advice would be particularly useful. |
