Default Ethnographic?? 28th Maori Battalion?

The first thing for myself this year. Not really my sort of thing, is it really an "ethnographic" piece? Is it a standard ww2 MI night stick? A Kiwi veteran might know. Could it be ww1? I think the most interesting feature is the owners strong proclamation of thier christian faith with the chalice and fish symbols. A sip from this chalice will render you senseless.

Possibly Maori Pioneer Battalion ww1. It is not that hard to find sticks and clubs used as trench weapons in the UK.

It is not impossible that it could be from the Boer War. I feel the strong christian motifs may be a little old fashioned for post WW1?
