Resto tips required
I have a Datu NW Borneo Barong I wish to restore for my collections...if Datu is still the correct term in these regions too?
The resto is pretty simple but at the same time requires a skill set I do not yet have but am willing to try. I am looking to have some silver plaited wire wrapping done and some slightly fancy split rattan wrapping replaced... Are there any good links or pointers that can be provided? The image shows the type of silver plaiting I am thinking of. With thanks Gavin Last edited by SwordsAntiqueWeapons; 4th August 2013 at 12:08 AM. |

It would be helpful to post pictures of the whole piece.

Thanks
Thanks for the link Detlef, this is very helpful...now to learn to plait silver wire.
Hi Battara, images of the entire barong will only lead to discussion on the barong, while for now I am wanting to discuss some resto tips. Once it is all done in the coming months I'll look to posting it. Gavin |

Why not just use silver wire?

I will use silver wire but I want to braid/plait it around a section of the hilt...a process I am not familiar with...I might twist the wire before I have a go to add a little extra bling to it but I should learn the method first.
